Sound design is again immersive, with crowds breaking out into chants and the bone-crunching hits really coming through. New perspectives and highlights really expand on the experience and throws in a sense of bragging rights. Replays are a big innovation point too, with the game clearly taking some inspiration from shooters via a player-of-the-game replay after periods and games. There is an awesome point-of-view angle that comes up sometimes that really provides some scope to how big these arenas are. The presentation really gets funky with some of the camera work and replays that are new to the experience. The new commentary duo of James Cybulski and Ray Ferraro bring much-needed energy, and the reworked scoreboards and graphics have the feel of a real broadcast. It is clear a lot of energy and resources went into this area in an effort to seek out the big-game feel. NHL 20 didn't need to do much after the looker its predecessor was.īut alterations to presentation sure don't hurt. It feels great and has come a long way, with individuality of stars and improvements to things like goaltending really standing out. This game is weighty but fast, with no bit of motion seemingly going to waste. There is quite a bit going on at the controller here with so many buttons assigned to actions, so the ability to sift between different settings based on skill is nice. Netminders are another big plus, as they seem more responsive not only in how they adjust to different types of shots, but in how they automatically redirect the puck by taking into account the surroundings on the ice besides the initial shooter. Ultimate Team players might be a little concerned this means opponents will always choose the biggest guys, but for the normal game, it's nice for these big athletes moving so fast over ice to collide and have it matter. It feels like hitting occurs more often and has more weight behind it. It doesn't detract from the experience, but with the game moving faster now, there are times when what should be a very fast shot lame ducks its way across the ice. ![]() That is greatly reduced here, thankfully. While shooting has been made more accurate and responsive in the past, sometimes players would roll into unexpected shot stances that weren't right for the situation. This means more variety, a more realistic feel and player choice. Overall, the tech changes mean better shots in context of the situation, as more animations have been added. Subban is now a unique aspect of the game. Thanks to some notable wrinkles, the booming shot of a P.K. Players have asked for superstars of the sport to stand out, which seems like a fair request. The chase for authenticity extends to Signature shots, which is exactly what they sound like. But balancing that as player feedback rolls in shouldn't be a tall ask, and, generally, it's nice to have a faster-feeling game without unrealistic acrobatics happening. ![]() too, as passing now feels more difficult. Granted, this has to work well within the confines of the greater game and A.I. Players react better to the puck on the ice and transition more fluidly into passes and shots. What the developers call RPM Tech has now been infused into animations involving the puck, and it makes the game feel like it has a faster pace. This year, it's all about making the game feel faster and more authentic. A year ago, Real Player Motion one-upped the game's removal of randomness when shooting the puck. ![]() ISpring Suite Max is the perfect choice if you need to create training courses. The new CEO came in, saw how poorly Generals 2 was performing, and gave it the boot, because around the same time EA took a good look at a lot of titles and cancelled some others, including cutting ties with Tiger Woods' PGA Tour. 'Generals 2' was subsequently cancelled on October 29th, 2013. There are a number of reasons the game may have been cancelled, there were a lot of issues hitting the game from all angles, but the big one that really stands out is that EA had a new CEO on September 17, 2013. Naturally, a lot of people disagreed with this. Of course, AGMLauncher was heavily biased against campaigns, and was even known to talk about how C&C games don't need campaigns to be a C&C game. ![]() At one point they even hired AGMLauncher from, a big C&C competition website, to function as a sort of Community Liason. They were, in many cases, making decisions that seemed intent on alienating the C&C community from a C&C game. Because they weren't listening to the community. So was the game cancelled due to community feedback? Nope. No skirmish, and they only announced plans for a campaign that would be released later for a fee, after the user-base overwhelmingly complained that a lack of campaign mode would ruin the game entirely. It wasn't as cheesy, it wasn't as silly as some of the emphasized stereotypes in the previous Generals / Zero Hour games, and again, was limited to a small handful of multiplayer-only maps. Just gone.Īdditionally, the game had generally been stripped of what made Generals and Zero Hour unique. No explanation that this feature would be returned. Remember the co-op enemy wave thing I mentioned? Completely removed. A lot of people were praising the basic mechanics of the game, but otherwise complaining that there were a lot of issues, in some cases even some of the game-breaking bugs that we'd reported months before.Īnd they removed features. When the game was released to the larger pool of players in the closed testing, months after our initial feedback, we saw so few changes actually made that it was downright insulting. The enemies would get progressively more and more powerful, and you'd have to strengthen your base with your friend to survive each wave. One feature that really stood out to me as being really cool was a co-op game mode wherein you and a friend would have to guard a part of the map, while wave after wave of enemies started attacking. We were told exactly what changes would be implemented to improve the game, and we reported numerous issues that they assured us they would fix. We saw a lot of good things about the project, and we saw a lot of issues with the project. The game had great potential when we were testing it. ![]() We played a pre-alpha version where we were able to test a few maps (and game modes) in a multiplayer-only environment. I was part of a core group of ~20-30 people flown into Los Angeles from around the world to test the game about three months (if I remember correctly) before everybody else. It's been several years and I only pay attention to C&C from a distance, so i may have misremembered some of the finer details. Please forgive any mistakes I make in my explanation here. In the true spirit of parkour, Matchboxmat uses many of Faith's abilities to go outside the intended path and pull off some legitimately impressive stunts without actually breaking the game. See, Mirror's Edge Catalyst boasts a big open-world to run around in but the game still pushes you along a linear path from objective to objective. This is probably my second favorite run this year for one reason: It's nearly impossible to tell when Matchboxmat is exploiting the game. Instead they each use a series of very subtle tricks, like pausing the exact same frame that they jump to basically trigger auto-jumping and bounce through a level extremely quickly. It's speedrunning in its purest sense because neither runner exploits game-breaking bugs to gain an edge. Despite the odd mistake, watching them tear through each level is almost dizzying. Nier's combat can be complicated for people who have use of two hands, but Halfcoordinated makes it look easy with one, pulling off some very technical skips to bypass huge sections of the game. 097Aceofspades never once loses his cool even when the entire world seems to be conspiring against him. ![]() ![]() ![]() It might not be anywhere near the world record, but this run is so unpredictable and fun to watch. In other words, the team doesn’t have the time to implement this properly and they can’t do it half-assed because they’ll be criticized to hell and back even if they do it well.Īs such, I dont feel that the best approach here should be ‘too hard, too risky, dont try’, but rather a ‘lets keep trying to find a working solution’ discourse. I suspect that the real reason for the lack of armor stands in the base game is the same as ever: lack of development bandwidth coupled with higher scrutiny. Sure, thralls are supposed to be limited via the follower cap, but the cap hasn’t ever been activated on official servers, and at this point I suspect it will stay that way. Worse, a properly implemented armor stand will only affect the client performance, whereas thralls affect server performance. In both cases, you have skeletal meshes with physics, but only one of those cases also adds the strain of absolutely unnecessary AI. So what’s worse for the server, a dozen armor stands or a dozen thralls? They’re absolutely correct about everything they said, but they failed to take it just one step further: people who absolutely want to show off their armors will end up using thralls for that if they don’t have an armor stand. I know that this issue presents challenges in the form of potential performance issues, and other users such as WMHB and Testerle were correct and justified in pointing them out. Sorry for the wall of text, Faithful out. As such, I dont feel that the best approach here should be ‘too hard, too risky, dont try’, but rather a ‘lets keep trying to find a working solution’ discourse. This highly requested feature has enjoyed an enduring multitude of users both calling for and supporting calls for Armor Display Racks/Manequins to be added since the game lauched. I do not care if this post makes me unpopular or draws scorn. If we witheld or removed every item which has the potential to negatively impact upon server performance, half of the game would be missing!Ī number of users such as myself have offered up potential compromises and solutions in the past which I am happy to repost here. ![]() ![]() However, I would add that almost anything in the game has the potential to negatively impact server performance if spammed: excessive foundation spamming, thrall & pet spam, lighting & torch spam, fish trap spam, crafting stations all with a backlog of tasks spam. Kings and Conquerers dont dress slaves and peasants in their own finest attire, and certainly not in Hyboria. I mean who among us can honestly say that they would invite their friends over then have them stand around our home wearing our finest clothes…!? No takers…then how about criminals or hobos, which is basically what enslaved Exlies are. Moreover, I also find the concept rather unwholesome on a fundamental level. The outcome for the worst is the same loss of our rare and hard earned armor. For one these ‘armor stands’ have a tendency to move around and face the wrong way at best, and get killed by Purges and nearby roaming mobs, in addition to getting stuck in meshes and requiring rescuing at worse. Much like Twitchy I do not abide the idea of using thralls as Armor Display Stands/Manequins. All fair points, I would still like to see it, I absolutely hate using thralls as display racks for my armor. |
