I got into the test group via, way back when I was still a vaguely competent admin there (I sort of made a mess of things on my way out, sorry guys). How did you get into the test group? just curious. My guess? The new CEO came in, saw how poorly Generals 2 was performing, and gave it the boot, because around the same time EA took a good look at a lot of titles and cancelled some others, including cutting ties with Tiger Woods' PGA Tour. 'Generals 2' was subsequently cancelled on October 29th, 2013. There are a number of reasons the game may have been cancelled, there were a lot of issues hitting the game from all angles, but the big one that really stands out is that EA had a new CEO on September 17, 2013. Naturally, a lot of people disagreed with this. Of course, AGMLauncher was heavily biased against campaigns, and was even known to talk about how C&C games don't need campaigns to be a C&C game. ![]() At one point they even hired AGMLauncher from, a big C&C competition website, to function as a sort of Community Liason. They were, in many cases, making decisions that seemed intent on alienating the C&C community from a C&C game. Because they weren't listening to the community. So was the game cancelled due to community feedback? Nope. No skirmish, and they only announced plans for a campaign that would be released later for a fee, after the user-base overwhelmingly complained that a lack of campaign mode would ruin the game entirely. It wasn't as cheesy, it wasn't as silly as some of the emphasized stereotypes in the previous Generals / Zero Hour games, and again, was limited to a small handful of multiplayer-only maps. Just gone.Īdditionally, the game had generally been stripped of what made Generals and Zero Hour unique. No explanation that this feature would be returned. Remember the co-op enemy wave thing I mentioned? Completely removed. A lot of people were praising the basic mechanics of the game, but otherwise complaining that there were a lot of issues, in some cases even some of the game-breaking bugs that we'd reported months before.Īnd they removed features. When the game was released to the larger pool of players in the closed testing, months after our initial feedback, we saw so few changes actually made that it was downright insulting. The enemies would get progressively more and more powerful, and you'd have to strengthen your base with your friend to survive each wave. One feature that really stood out to me as being really cool was a co-op game mode wherein you and a friend would have to guard a part of the map, while wave after wave of enemies started attacking. We were told exactly what changes would be implemented to improve the game, and we reported numerous issues that they assured us they would fix. We saw a lot of good things about the project, and we saw a lot of issues with the project. The game had great potential when we were testing it. ![]() We played a pre-alpha version where we were able to test a few maps (and game modes) in a multiplayer-only environment. I was part of a core group of ~20-30 people flown into Los Angeles from around the world to test the game about three months (if I remember correctly) before everybody else. It's been several years and I only pay attention to C&C from a distance, so i may have misremembered some of the finer details. Please forgive any mistakes I make in my explanation here.
